Golfito Costa Rica Real Estate
The large town of Golfito – it has about 7,000 inhabitants - is the doorway to the province of Puntarenas. It sits on the south coast of Costa Rica, just a few miles away from the Panamanian border. It is located with the Golfo Dulce – which is actually a fjord, a long narrow opening surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides – and as such is in a prime location for both tourists and expatriates and Ticos (as native Costa Ricans call themselves). Real estate in Golfito Costa Rica comes in a variety of price ranges, because of the city’s geographical location. It faces the “little gulf,” and so there are a couple of marinas and ports on the water side, and it is surrounded on its other three sides by steep hills, covered with dense tropical forests. It’s possible to drive here from San José via the Pan American highway – but that is a long – eight hour – drive, and it’s much easier just to fly straight into its airport, which is located only three miles from the city.
Real Estate in Golfito Costa Rica
Golfito is a “picturesque” town, as the guidebooks say. It is far longer than it is wide – in fact the town is only a handful of blocks wide. There are many homes right up against the water – even standing over it on stilts. The town has all the modern conveniences, and even a duty free shopping mall which attracts Costa Ricans from all over. Golfito Costa Rica properties can be found right on the waterfront, but of course these are the properties that are most in demand. Other properties can be found along the hills, or even on the shores of Golfo Dulce (which would make it necessary to commute to the city proper by motorboat.)
