NATIONAL FORECAST
Pacific - Surf chest to head high for Christmas Day, with an overhead set every halfhour on the southern beaches. Tuesday the presents arrive, overhead sets from the Northwest mixed with head high sets from the Southwest. The combo lasts through Thursday morning, and by sunset most of the set waves are gone. Leftover chest to head high surf Friday and a foot smaller Saturday. Not much for the next week, stomach to chest high - a freak head high wave every hour.
Caribbean - East swell pumps in the first head high sets on Monday, but only one or two per hour. Then on Tuesday it's head to overhead with more of the same for Wednesday. By Thursday the waves die off back to chest high with a couple of sneaker sets and Friday is another between day, waist to chest high. Another East swell forming by Venezuela sends out the first headhigh sets by Saturday afternoon.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 12/23 or posted)** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Tamarindo has had waves and big ones for about two weeks running which is something I can't remember when I last saw. Waves are head high at the higher tides and the wind has been going on-shore late in the morning for the past several days. Lots of strong side-current in the white water from so much motion.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The waves size is not predicted to change significantly. Expect the beach to be a busy place with Christmas sun-bathers. Las olas no estan pronisticadas de cambiar. Habra mucha gente tomando sol en la playa por la navidad.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The last few days have been disappointing with the lack of all day off shores and the dropping swell.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): With the high tides moving into the early morning and the off shores picking up over the next few days, there is a high probability for good surf. Double sessions are likely A bunch of dorks around here asked Santa for swell. We'll see.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The entire bay has been good with suprising quality at the rock at the north end of Playa Grande.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Ask at the hotel about the student's quarters and apartments for unbelievable bargains during the high season in Playa Grande right in front of the main breaks.
** From John at Lyman Photos in Playa Negra/Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been head high to a foot or two overhead. The wind has been offshore in the mornings and onshore in the afternoons.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf will stay in the head high range through the first part of this week but will drop after Christmas. Look for smaller surf until Thursday when it will pick back up to a bit over head. We are into the dry season now with lots of hot sunny days with that dry warm offshore wind.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The tide will be high in the early mornings this week so Playa Negra will be the spot. This place is a wave magnet like no other around here.
