Our New Dominical Little Theatre Newsletter

March 13, 2007

Dear Patrons & Friends of DLT,

This season Dominical Little Theatre teams up with veteran pianist, Keith Scott, to present “Dames & Dudes, A Musical Revue on the Barú” at the Villas Rio Mar Resort in Dominical, April 13-15 and April 19-21.

We kick off our 2nd annual Gala Dress Rehearsal event April 11th with Keith, a performing artist with a 35-year career playing piano and flugelhorn with jazz groups, show bands and nightclub single acts, as well as concert performances with Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, Slyde Hyde, Gabe Baltazar and comedians Mickey Rooney and Jerry Vandyke to name a few. Keith Scott has been writing and playing jazz since his early teenage years. Leader of the award winning West Chester University Jazz Ensemble, Keith won a Downbeat Magazine scholarship to Berkely School of Music for his big band arrangement of "Here's That Rainy Day." His original composition called "Outside In" arranged for big band brought rave reviews from jazz pianist Marian McPartland (judging the Villanova Jazz Festival). She labeled it "a very creative original chart." Over the years Keith has shared the concert stage with Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, Gabe Baltazar, Slyde Hyde and comedians Mickey Rooney and Jerry Vandyke, to name a few.

Though Keith is officially “retired” he is returning to the stage to accompany our 11+ cast through a nostalgic and spirited 23 songs performed in the tradition of Broadway. Around 100 seats are available to the public by reservation only for the “Gala” performance.

On the 13th, 14th, and 15th our cast will also include professional performing artist, Fuzzy Rojas. Former fashion designer turned singer, Fuzzy is becoming more and more recognized for her “up front” emotional treatment of jazz, soul and rhythm & blues standards. Fuzzy has performed at the Jazz Café in San Pedro and the Copacabana in Jacó among other venues throughout Costa Rica. She now lives in the hills outside of Quepos and frequently performs at the Bambú Jam and Café Milagro.

“Dames & Dudes” is an energetic tribute to musical theatre spanning seven decades. Selections from show business greats such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Cy Coleman, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber are included in the song list. Incorporated in the repertoire are show-stopper traditions such as “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “Everything’s Coming up Roses” presented with favorites like “Luck Be a Lady” and “If Ever I Should Leave You.”

The “Dames & Dudes” revue takes place at Villas Rio Mar in Dominical and runs April 13-15 and April 19-21. The program begins at 7 p.m. A pre-show “Buffet on the Barú” is available by reservation only. Ticket information is available at 787-8250, 398-0915, 834-7142 and DLT_info@yahoo.com .
