Costa Rica Set to Offer Small Tourism Businesses Credit for Osa Whale Watching

Residents living in communities located near Ballena National Park on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica will soon be able to take advantage of the opportunity to apply for credit in order to establish businesses focused on whale watching.

The President of Costa Rica and the Economy Minister recently announced that the Costa Rican government will establish a line of credit totaling $8 million (₡4 billion) at Coopealianza, a local cooperative, that will provide Osa Peninsula residents will the chance to develop local tourism.

Whale watching is currently a popular tourist activity for communities situated near Ballena National Park. This is particularly true for residents of Uvita. The community was recently the site for the 5th Annual Whale and Dolphin Festival. This annual event focuses on the annual migration of humpback whales as they make their way from warmer tropical waters.

The new resources are designed to provide support to business owners who wish to develop service and trading activities in the local region.
