Starbucks Expanding its Presence in Costa Rica

Two more Starbucks coffee shops will soon be operating in Costa Rica. The U.S.-based coffee titan expects to have one shop operating on the east end of the Greater Metropolitan Area and another on the west end by the end of the year. This will bring the total number of Starbucks stores operating in Costa Rica to four.

Expansion plans are also expected to continue well into 2014. High customer traffic will serve as the primary factor for determining new locations.

Operations for Starbucks stores in Costa Rica first began in the summer of last year. Approximately 40 people are employed between the two stores located in Escazú and Moravia. Each of the two stores serves between 300 and 400 customers on a daily basis.

Starbucks began the process of expanding its Costa Rica presence in March of 2013 with the purchase of a farm located in Poás Volcano foothills in Alajuela. The farm, spanning some 240 hectares will serve as coffee research center for the Seattle-based company.
