Ticos Air Accepting Applications in Costa Rica

Although Ticos Air is new to Costa Rica, the airline is already looking fill a number of technical and administrative positions. Approximately 120 employees are needed to round out the airline's approaching launch. The new employees will join a staff of 22 current employees.

Ticos Air will begin offering flights as soon as 2014. The documentation required
for operating permits was provided by the airline to the Civil Aviation  Administration in June. Ticos will operate a total of five Airbus 319 airplanes.  The airline's first destinations will be Caracas, Mexico City, Miami, and New York.

Originally founded in December 2012, the airline has spent significant time establishing their operations in San Jose while purchasing planes, hiring workers, and preparing for their initial launch. The decision by TACA Airlines in May to cease five nonstop Costa Rican flights from the US as well as other countries has opened a market opportunity for new airlines, including Ticos Air. With their decision to stop the nonstop flights, TACA also elected to lay off more than 250 employees. The move came as TACA works to integrate their operations with Avianca, the Columbian-owned airline.
